As Potter Returns, Radcliffe Admits: “The Role Drove Me to Alcohol”

09 Jul 2025

A super news for all Potter fans — they are finally making an awesome Harry Potter series! Moreover, the HBO channel officially introduced the actors who will play the main characters in this long-awaited project about the boy wizard. When to expect the series release, whether actors from the original Potter will appear in it, and much more! And we also prepared interesting facts for you that you definitely didn’t know about the original Potter filming — because how could we do without it!

Filming Is Already in Full Swing!

If you thought the story of Harry Potter ended with the movies, get ready to be surprised! HBO has finally announced a series about the boy wizard, with a premiere planned in a few years. But this is not just another spin-off or a side story — it’s a true adaptation of all seven books by J.K. Rowling!

1 (9).jpg?format=webp@thesun.co.uk

Imagine, now each season will be dedicated to one book! This means fans will be able to enjoy details that weren’t shown in the movies. Moreover, the project is planned for at least ten years, so we have many years of magic and adventure ahead.

Why This Series Is Not Just a Repetition of the Old?

The Harry Potter movies have become a classic but everyone knows that a lot had to be left out due to the two-hour format. The book series is a story filled with hundreds of small details that can now be fully revealed. The series will pay attention not only to the main plot but also to side characters, their experiences, and development.

@kurtheggers.wordpress.com

This is a chance to dive into the atmosphere of Hogwarts with new depth. And believe me, for true fans — it’s simply a gift, because each episode they will be able to see with fresh eyes.

Where Are They Filming and How Much Does This Huge Project Cost?

Filming starts already in summer 2025 at Leavesden Studios in the UK — the very place where all Harry Potter films were made. Returning to these walls is like coming home for fans. But the budget for the new series is just as impressive as for big projects like Game of Thrones or House of the Dragon.

3 (9).jpg?format=webp

@screenrant.com

Warner Bros. Discovery has placed a serious bet on this format, and the funds will allow them to make the show as high-quality as possible — magnificent costumes, complex visual effects, large-scale sets, and real magic on screen. And here’s the most interesting part — according to Financial Express, the budget per episode is expected to exceed 100 million dollars!

They’re Building an Entire Town!

You heard that right — Warner Bros. didn’t settle for just expensive sound stages and a green screen. For the upcoming Harry Potter series, a real mini-town is being built in the county of Hertfordshire! Not just some props — a full-scale complex where people will live, film, rehearse, study, and even receive medical care.

4 (8).jpg?format=webp

@UnBoxPHD/SplashNews.com

The project is unfolding on the grounds of the legendary Leavesden Studios, where the original films were shot. Now it’s a new era, new heroes, and... an entire magical town in the style of old English charm!

What Will Be Built: From a Training Center to Cat Beds!

Studios, sound stages, parking garages — that’s the standard. But Warner Bros. is going further: the upcoming complex will include a school for child actors, a medical center, special zones for animals that will appear in the series, and even new transport interchanges so Muggles won’t get stuck in traffic.

5 (7).jpg?format=webp@UnBoxPHD/SplashNews.com

Everything is designed for years of filming and dozens of episodes. Even fans who are tired of remakes can’t help but feel curious. Because if a reboot is going to happen — this is the way to do it: with grandeur, details, and full immersion into the world of magic.

A Budget That Will Make Your Head Spin

Warner Bros. has already allocated a whopping £1 billion for all this magic. That’s more than the entire final season of Game of Thrones cost. No expense is being spared: the show is promised to be grand, multi-season, and visually stunning.

6 (7).jpg?format=webp

@Noriko Hayashi/Bloomberg via Getty Images

Rumor has it the streets will be so realistic that actors will actually be able to live in Little Whinging — just like a real suburban neighborhood. Only with owls and letters from Hogwarts, of course. We just can’t wait to see the final result!

Who’s Behind the Series?

A team of real professionals is working on the project. Francesca Gardiner, known for Succession and His Dark Materials, is the showrunner. The director is Mark Mylod, who worked on Game of Thrones and Succession, and the screenwriter is Laura Neal from Killing Eve.

7.jpg?format=webp

@Getty Images

The costumes are created by Holly Waddington — an Oscar winner, known for her attention to detail. Visual effects will most likely be done by Framestore — the very studio that created magic for the original films. This means the new series definitely won’t lose out in quality!

J.K. Rowling Returns — But It’s Not That Simple

And here’s another big moment for Potterheads! Yes, the author of the Harry Potter books, J.K. Rowling, is back at the helm! She didn’t just give her blessing — she joined the project as an executive producer and personally took part in shaping the series, including selecting the showrunner.

8 (5).jpg?format=webp

@bbc.com

Scripts, visual style, key decisions — nothing gets approved without her say. Sounds like a dream come true for fans. But Rowling’s involvement has also stirred up debate. Due to her outspoken views on transgender issues, heated discussions have once again flared up online — as Vogue reports, she is often accused of transphobia. However, HBO insists: this project isn’t about politics, it’s about magic.

Why Was the Series Greenlit Right Now?

And we’ve got an answer for that too! It’s simple: the Harry Potter universe is back at the top. Hogwarts Legacy absolutely crushed it in 2023 and became the highest-grossing game of the year. Tickets for The Cursed Child are still selling out fast. The fans never truly left — and Warner Bros. Discovery knows it well.

9 (5).jpg?format=webp@HBO

They’ve named the Wizarding World their “golden asset” and are betting on it for at least the next decade. The new series isn’t just a reboot. It’s an attempt to tell the same story — but in a whole new way. And if everything goes according to plan, we’re in for the fantasy event of the decade!

Who Will Be Chosen for the Main Roles?

In September 2024, HBO announced an open casting call for children aged 9–11 from the UK and Ireland, who will play Harry, Hermione, and Ron. But the most important thing — they are not looking at race, gender, or ethnicity.

Screenshot_3 (1).jpg?format=webp@Warner Bros/Everett Collection

This means we’re expecting fresh and unexpected interpretations of the classic characters! It’s really exciting to see them! This approach has sparked a lot of discussions and, of course, hope for a new take on the familiar story. And now we are ready to introduce you to the new characters closer!

John Lithgow — The New Dumbledore

For many fans, the news that John Lithgow would play Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore came as a complete surprise. This talented actor, known for projects like the series The Crown and the films The World According to Garp and The Age of Innocence, admitted in an interview that the offer to play Dumbledore caught him off guard. He said he got the call during the Sundance Film Festival and immediately realized this role would be one of the most important chapters in his life.

11.jpg?format=webp@Mat Hayward/Getty ; Murray Close/Warner Bros./Courtesy Everett Collection

“I’m going to play a character that will define the last creative phase of my life,” Lithgow said. “I’ll be almost 87 when the series wraps since each season covers one book. But I’m really looking forward to working with what I think is a wonderful team.” Interestingly, after the casting announcement, he started getting recognized in airports and on the streets — showing how eagerly fans await this new take on a beloved character.

Janet McTeer — The New McGonagall

Janet McTeer was invited to play Professor Minerva McGonagall, a role originally brilliantly performed by Maggie Smith in the films. Negotiations with McTeer took place in early 2025, and by April her casting was officially confirmed.

12.jpg?format=webp

@Kate Green/Getty ; Warner Bros.

For Janet, this marks a return to HBO after her acclaimed role as Clementine Churchill in Into the Storm, which earned her an Emmy nomination. She is also set to star in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Fans now eagerly await how she will bring to life the strict yet fair professor.

Paapa Essiedu — The New Severus Snape

One of the most talked-about castings is Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, the Potions Master with one of the most tragic story arcs. Essiedu, a 34-year-old British actor known from I May Destroy You and Black Mirror, will take on this iconic role. For comparison, Alan Rickman was 54 when he first played Snape but in the HBO series, Snape will be about 31 years old, as in the books.

13.jpg?format=webp

@Dave Benett/Getty ; Everett Collection

This shows the new adaptation’s commitment to realism by keeping characters true to their ages and personalities. Essiedu has previously worked with HBO and was Emmy-nominated for I May Destroy You. Fans are curious to see if he can capture Snape’s complex nature, not by imitating Rickman’s legendary portrayal but by creating his own unique version.

Nick Frost — The New Hagrid

The news that Nick Frost might play Rubeus Hagrid in the reboot of Harry Potter has stirred real excitement among fans. And no wonder! The kind-hearted half-giant, forever loved by audiences, was previously portrayed by the unforgettable Robbie Coltrane. Now, the torch may be passed to the British actor known for Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz.

14 (3).jpg?format=webp

@Alan Chapman/Dave Benett/WireImage ; Warner Brothers/courtesy Everett Collection

Frost fueled the intrigue when he posted a cryptic message on Instagram: — What a wonderful day! It’s happening. It’s really happening. Keep calm and carry on. Fans were quick to notice that he had followed John Lithgow (the new Dumbledore) and Paapa Essiedu (the new Snape). Coincidence? Hardly.

Luke Treadaway — The New Professor Quirrell

In April, HBO announced that Luke Treadaway would play the role of the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor — Quirrell. In the original films, he was portrayed by Ian Hart but now we’re getting a fresh take on this nervous instructor with... dangerous secrets.

15 (5).jpg?format=webp@Eamonn M. McCormack/Getty; Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection

Treadaway remains silent for now but his theater background and his performance in The Favourite promise something intriguing. We can’t wait for his first face-to-face encounter with Voldemort — quite literally.

Paul Whitehouse — The New Filch

When it was revealed that Hogwarts’ caretaker Argus Filch would be played by Paul Whitehouse, it brought a wave of nostalgia and curiosity. Interestingly, Whitehouse had already appeared in the Potter films — in Prisoner of Azkaban, he played the sword-wielding knight from the painting. Now he’s officially “on duty,” ready to chase mischief-makers through the castle’s corridors.

And guess what? We’ve already uncovered information about who will play the main trio in the series — and whether any of the original cast will return, even in cameos! More on that very soon. But for now, let’s go back to where this legendary story began...

One Train Ride That Changed Everything

Legend has it: the idea for Harry Potter came to J.K. Rowling… on a train. It was summer 1990. A regular trip from Manchester to London, no magic wands — just thoughts that suddenly took shape.

17 (2).jpg?format=webp

@Ferdaus Shamim/WireImage

The young writer, as Rowling later described herself, “saw” a little boy with glasses who didn’t yet know he was a wizard. She didn’t have a notebook at the time, so her first scribbles were made on napkins and old tickets.

Seven Years, Ten Publishers, and Lots of Tea

What’s now considered a literary classic was, at first, dismissed as strange. The manuscript for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was rejected by more than ten publishers. Some believed kids wouldn’t read a 300-page book.

18 (2).jpg?format=webp

@Christopher Furlong/Getty Images

Others thought a boy wizard wasn’t believable. But in 1997, a small London publisher, Bloomsbury, finally took the leap. Rumor has it, the final push came from the 8-year-old daughter of the company’s chairman — she read the first chapters and demanded more.

From a Bookshelf to Screens Around the World

Just a few years later, Warner Bros. bought the film rights — and that’s when the real magic began. Rowling insisted the films be shot in the UK, with British actors only.

21 (1).jpg?format=webp@quizworld.de

Even the directors were chosen with the book’s authenticity in mind. For the lead role, they weren’t looking for a movie star but a real boy with “that certain look.” And that’s how Daniel Radcliffe — a regular schoolboy — became Harry Potter forever.

Hogwarts Was Built Like A Real University

During the preparation for filming, they didn’t just design sets — they created an entire universe with geography, schedules, a transportation system, and school rules. The artists even invented house crests, lampposts, and kitchen utensils.

Screenshot_4.jpg?format=webp@Warner Bros. Pictures

Such a level of detail is rarely seen in movies. That’s why the audience believed Hogwarts was not a fictional castle but a real place where one day a letter with an owl would arrive.

Worldwide Magic That Never Ends

Now, decades later, we know how it all ended. Or rather — it didn’t end. The books have sold more than 600 million copies, the movies have grossed over 7 billion dollars, and Harry himself has become a part of global culture.

24 (1).jpg?format=webp

@uozzart.com

But what is the secret of this success and how did Joanne come up with the main character who became loved by millions of people around the world? It’s time to find out!

The Boy With Glasses — From Joanne’s Childhood

The image of Harry Potter is not just a product of the author’s imagination. As she admitted later in many interviews, it was formed from many details, and it all started… with a childhood game. When Joanne Rowling lived in the village of Winterborne, she had a neighbor and friend — a boy named Ian Potter.

23 (1).jpg?format=webp

@Warner Bros. Pictures

They played wizards together, even though they were only 2 to 7 years old. Ian wore round glasses and looked very much like the boy who years later would appear on the pages of millions of books...

The Surname That Stuck To The Hero

Rowling never hid the fact that she liked the surname Potter since childhood. Unlike her own — which she supposedly always found "dull" and uninteresting.

Screenshot_5 (1) (1).jpg?format=webp@Courtesy Everett Collection

Journalists often wrote that it was Ian Potter who became the person thanks to whom this name appeared in her life. And although Joanne, in personal letters, emphasized that Harry has nothing in common with Ian except for the surname, the reference is hard to miss.

Neighbors Who Remembered Everything

As the Daily Mail wrote, when Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone became a sensation, Ian’s mother — Ruby Potter — wrote Joanne a congratulatory letter. They knew each other well in the past, since Ruby was friends with Joanne’s mother, Anne Rowling. In her reply letter, Joanne thanked her for the kind words and again stressed that Harry is not a self-portrait of Ian.

Screenshot_6 (1).jpg?format=webp

@fantastikcanavarlar.com

But maybe that boy with the round glasses left a deeper mark than it seemed... although Joanne denies it? The main thing is the fact remains — Harry was loved by everyone both in the book and in the film, where the role was brilliantly played by Daniel Radcliffe!

Spielberg, Harry, and Animation? Yes, It Almost Happened!

Few people know this but originally the director of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was supposed to be none other than… Steven Spielberg himself! It seemed like the perfect choice — a Hollywood star, a blockbuster genius but… it didn’t work out. Negotiations with him lasted more than a year and ended with his refusal.

25 (1).jpg?format=webp@cinefilosoficial.com

What was the reason? According to People magazine, Spielberg wanted to turn Harry Potter into an animated film and even considered mixing live-action footage with animation. He also called the story too “childish” for his level, which obviously didn’t please either Rowling or the film creators...

Harry Potter and Home Alone Share the Same Director!

After Spielberg declined, dozens of big names entered the director’s shortlist: Terry Gilliam, Jonathan Demme, Peter Weir… But the winner was the one who created Home Alone — Chris Columbus. His approach was exactly what was needed: respect for the original book and a magical atmosphere!

26 (1).jpg?format=webp

@Harry Potter World/x.com

He directed the first two parts, set the style, grew the actors, and gave the audience that very “Potter-verse” they wanted to return to again and again.

Harry Could Have Been Someone Else Entirely

Now we move to casting — the real hunt for future icons. And guess who almost became Harry Potter? Haley Joel Osment — the boy from The Sixth Sense and A.I. Artificial Intelligence. Spielberg initially suggested him while talks with the studio were still ongoing!

27 (1).jpg?format=webp@Rewan/reddit.com

But as the Daily Mail wrote, here Joan Rowling stepped in with a strong argument: “Only British actors!” And that was it — goodbye America, hello Radcliffe. This principle applied to everyone: from main roles to supporting actors. So Hogwarts remained English not only in the books but also on the screen.

The Brits Win — And Accidentally Make History

Thanks to Rowling, the main roles went to three then-unknown teenagers: Daniel Radcliffe (11 years old), Emma Watson (10 years old), and Rupert Grint (12 years old). The producers bet everything on them — and they didn’t lose. Interestingly, another main contender for Harry was Liam Aiken from the series Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.

28 (1).jpg?format=webp

@Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone / Warner Bros., Nanny McPhee / Universal Pictures

He was nearly cast but as Us Weekly wrote, Rowling found out and… personally called director Columbus to stop the casting. Was she strict? Maybe. But it was her determination that created the magic we see on screen. However, the directors had a tough time with the further actor search...

One Evening at the Theater — And Harry Potter’s Fate Was Sealed!

In 2000, Harry Potter producer David Heyman and screenwriter Steve Kloves went to a theater in London to take a break. They weren’t looking for actors — just watching the audience.

29 (1).jpg?format=webp

@Nils Jorgensen/Shutterstock

Suddenly, their attention was caught by a boy with big blue eyes, who was sitting… not on stage but among the audience! That boy was Daniel Radcliffe…

He Captivated the Creators at First Sight, Unaware of His Own Destiny!

Heyman later recalled that he immediately knew — this was the one “Harry.” At that time, their search for the lead actor had lasted seven months, with over 5,000 auditions, and success just hadn’t come. And then they saw Daniel, whose charisma attracted everyone’s attention in the theater, even though he was just an audience member!

30 (1).jpg?format=webp

@wsj.com

Radcliffe had been attending an acting studio since he was five but hadn’t yet been noticed for any famous roles — fate itself gave him this chance!

Radcliffe’s Parents Were Against Filming in the USA

When the producers reached out to Daniel Radcliffe’s parents, they gave a firm “no.” At the time, the plan was to shoot the films in the United States, and for a little boy, that meant leaving home for a long six months in Los Angeles.

31 (2).jpg?format=webp@daniel9340/Instagram.com

His parents were afraid that such a move would have a negative impact on their son’s life and education. So they refused to let him audition, not wanting their child to live so far away and in a foreign country. Radcliffe’s participation in the film was seriously at risk.

Filming Was Moved from the US to the UK — Just for Daniel

The producers didn’t give up. A few months later, they announced that the filming would take place in the United Kingdom instead of the US. This decision immediately reassured Radcliffe’s parents.

32 (1).jpg?format=webp

@BBC/Wall to Wall Media

Only then did they agree, and Daniel finally went to the audition. Later, he shared that his parents probably allowed it because school wasn’t going very well for him at the time, and they thought, “Maybe he should try something new.”

Warner Bros. Gave Him a Two-Film Contract Right Away

As reported by the Daily Mail, Warner Bros. didn’t want to lose their future Harry Potter. So instead of offering Daniel a contract for just one film, they gave him a two-film deal right away.

33 (1).jpg?format=webp

@imdb.com

That way, they locked him in for both the first and second movies. Of course, it eventually turned into eight magical films that captured the hearts of millions around the world.

When Fame Becomes a Struggle

Playing Harry Potter changed Daniel’s life not just professionally but personally, too. The young actor became a true star almost overnight — but not all of his classmates were thrilled about it. According to People magazine, some kids became jealous and hostile, and school life turned into a real challenge.

34 (1).jpg?format=webp

Under pressure from unwanted attention and negativity, Daniel realized it was getting harder to focus on normal school life. He made the tough decision to leave school and focus entirely on acting — especially on filming the next parts of the Harry Potter saga.

Two Girls for Hermione — But Only One Won the Role

Just like the role of Harry almost went to another actor, the role of Hermione Granger could’ve gone to someone else, too. Casting directors were torn between Hattie Jones — an experienced child actress — and a completely unknown girl named Emma Watson.

35 (1).jpg?format=webp

@Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone / Warner Bros.,  Madeline / Sony Pictures Entertainment

But as soon as Emma walked into the audition, casting director Janet Hirshenson instantly felt she was perfect for the smart and determined Hermione. The choice was made almost immediately, and now it’s nearly impossible to imagine anyone else in the role.

Ron Weasley — An Accidental Choice That Became Iconic

Thomas Brodie-Sangster, known from Nanny McPhee, also auditioned for Ron Weasley. But it was Rupert Grint — the red-haired kid who submitted a home-made video — who won the part.

36 (1).jpg?format=webp

@Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone / Warner Bros., Nanny McPhee / Universal Pictures

His natural charm and, according to producers, his hilarious rant about hating spiders sealed the deal. Thomas later said the experience taught him not to be discouraged by rejection — because that’s how great careers often begin.

Richard Harris Became Dumbledore Thanks to His Granddaughter!

The role of the wise Professor Dumbledore went to Richard Harris (who sadly passed away in 2002) but at first, the actor didn’t want to join the films. The reason he changed his mind? His 11-year-old granddaughter gave him an ultimatum: if he didn’t agree to play Dumbledore, she would stop speaking to him.

37 (1).jpg?format=webp

@YeMommyYo/reddit.com

That sweet moment — and his love for his granddaughter — made Harris say yes, and thanks to her, we got the unforgettable Dumbledore we saw on screen.

The First Harry Potter Movie Has Different Titles in Different Countries!

After endless casting rounds and finally choosing the main trio, in 2001 the film Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone hit theaters — and it was pure magic, both for millions of fans and for the film industry. But here's the twist: the first Harry Potter movie was released under different titles around the world.

38 (3).jpg?format=webp

@Warner Bros.

Everywhere else it was Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone but in the US — Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Yep, Americans decided to do it their own way, and in the process created a little secret for fans. Why did that happen? Let’s reveal it.

The Reason Behind the Title Change Revealed!

It all started with the book. When it was first published, American publishers decided the word “Philosopher” might sound too boring to the audience, and didn’t feel magical enough. So they changed it to the more magical-sounding “Sorcerer.”

39 (1).jpg?format=webp@poggers.com

And during filming, to make sure everything matched, all the scenes that mentioned the stone had to be shot twice! In one version, actors said “Philosopher’s Stone,” and in the other — “Sorcerer’s Stone,” just for the US.

Harry Potter Took Over the World from the Very First Film!

Now let’s talk numbers — and they’re pretty magical too! The first movie cost about $125 million to make — a big risk at the time, since no one knew if it would even succeed.

40 (1).jpg?format=webp

@WARNER BROS / JK ROWLING / Ronal / Picture Alliance

But in just the first few weeks after its release, the film earned over $300 million! And eventually — it made almost a billion dollars worldwide. Yes, nearly a billion — from just one movie!

The Decision to Continue Filming

Critics praised the movie for its special effects and the surprisingly strong performances from the young cast. And audiences — kids and adults alike — completely fell in love with the story. Harry Potter became that rare film families could watch together, over and over again. The success was so overwhelming that Warner Bros. immediately made their decision: there would be a sequel!

41 (1).jpg?format=webp@WARNER BROS / JK ROWLING / Ronal / Picture Alliance

And just like that, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was born — and then came a whole saga of eight iconic films. Of course, behind the scenes there were tons of funny mishaps and curious moments... and we’re about to share them with you!

Emma Watson and... Huge Teeth!

If you’ve read the books, you probably remember that Hermione had “rather large teeth.” In the first film, the creators decided not to ignore this detail and gave Emma Watson a pair of fake teeth to wear.

42 (1).jpg?format=webp

@Warner Bros.

However, the experiment didn’t last long: they managed to shoot only one scene with them — Emma was so uncomfortable that she could barely speak her lines. In the end, the directors decided Hermione would keep her natural teeth. And they were absolutely right!

A Special Team for Acne Removal

When a film franchise runs for ten years, the actors change, to say the least. By the time of the fifth film, the crew had to solve an unexpected problem — acne and stubble.

43 (1).jpg?format=webp

@Warner Bros.

Yes, for Order of the Phoenix, a special visual effects team was brought in to retouch the young wizards’ faces and give them a more “school-like” appearance.

Exams That Cost Millions

During the filming of Order of the Phoenix, Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson had to take real exams. To accommodate this, the film production was paused for almost a month. This break cost Warner Bros. nearly 5 million dollars!

44 (1).jpg?format=webp

@people.com

That’s an expensive education for sure. But considering that the total budget for all eight films was 1.155 billion dollars — roughly the same as the annual budget of Kyrgyzstan in 2008 — the filmmakers definitely had the money.

The Kiss That Took 24 Takes!

The actors grew up, and so did the scenes. In the fifth film — the first to feature a real kiss for Harry — filming was not as romantic as it might seem. The scene with Cho Chang took 24 takes, and the discussion of the kiss by Ron and Hermione ended with hysterical giggling right on camera.

45 (7).jpg?format=webp@Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection

However, the director decided that the laughter made the moment more alive — and kept it in the film.

Behind The Scenes, It Was No Laughing Matter

On screen, it’s magic but behind the scenes, the actors sometimes had a very different story. In the show Off Camera, Daniel Radcliffe admitted that during filming, he developed serious problems with alcohol. The early fame, millions of eyes watching every step — all this became a real challenge for a teenager who just wanted to live a normal life.

46 (1).jpg?format=webp

@Warner Bros.

He said it was especially hard in London — people treated him like “one of their own” and allowed themselves to be overly familiar: they made silly jokes, as if he was not a person but a character from the film. But thankfully, that’s all in the past. Family, friends, and work helped him overcome his addiction. Today, Daniel is not only a successful actor but also a happy husband and father. In April 2023, he and his wife, actress Erin Darke, became parents — the couple had a son.

Where Has Emma Watson Gone?

After the finale of Harry Potter, it seemed that Emma Watson would become the next Hollywood superstar. But years went by, and the number of big premieres featuring her steadily decreased. Since 2019, the actress hasn’t appeared on the big screen at all — Emma gave an interview to Financial Times and honestly admitted that she didn’t feel happy.

47 (1).jpg?format=webp

@GERARD JULIEN/AFP/Getty Images

The film industry was exhausting, forcing her to play by someone else’s rules — and at some point, she simply burned out. Now she focuses on what truly brings her joy — directing and writing. As for her personal life, Emma is still single. She is not married and has not yet become a mother.

Rupert Grint Has Also Been Out of Sight for a Long Time...

During the Harry Potter years, critics often noted that Rupert Grint, who played Ron Weasley, was the most talented of the trio. His acting seemed natural, lively, and full of great humor. It seemed like he had a big Hollywood career ahead of him; however, after the Potter series ended, Grint chose a very different path. He avoided premieres and tried to stay away from the spotlight.

48 (2).jpg?format=webp

@Dave J Hogan/Getty Images

It was clear that Rupert was searching for himself — he tried roles in independent films, acted in TV series, and even started his own business… But unfortunately, no major projects appeared. Rather, it is about choosing peace and family. In 2020, Grint became a father — his longtime partner Georgia Groome (they have been together since 2011!) gave birth to a daughter they named Wednesday. And this spring, the family grew by another girl. Rupert rarely shares details about his personal life but it is clear that fatherhood truly suits him.

So, Will We See Our Favorite Actors Again?

Probably every fan has dreamed at least once: what if we see Harry, Ron, and Hermione again — grown up, with gray hair but still together? Sadly, that dream will remain a dream. As Vogue magazine wrote, Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint publicly support the new Harry Potter adaptation from HBO — but they will not be involved in it. They believe this story should be independent, without cameos or attempts to play on nostalgia.

49 (1).jpg?format=webp@uk.movies.yahoo.com

However, J.K. Rowling herself will participate in the project as an executive producer and personally took part in choosing the showrunner. In short, new heroes, old magic — and a completely different “Hogwarts” that we will definitely want to visit.

Who Will Become the New Harry, Hermione, and Ron?

Perhaps the most exciting question for all fans was: who will play the legendary trio in the new HBO Harry Potter version? The answer is finally known — and the cast is truly surprising! The role of Harry Potter will debut young Dominic MacLoughlin. He has never acted in films before — and immediately received the leading role of the entire era. Producers assure that he has rare charisma, and Daniel Radcliffe blessed the choice, saying he is happy to pass the baton!

50 (1).jpg?format=webp

@harrypotter.com

Harry’s best friend, Ron Weasley, will be played by Alastair Stout. He is also a newcomer but his red curls and charm seem to have already won over fans. The new Hermione will be Arabella Stanton — a London theater star who shined in the musical Matilda. Visually, she is nothing like Emma Watson, and that is the whole idea of the reboot. The creators promise: it will be a new story, a new interpretation — and a new generation of heroes who will win the hearts of millions in 2027!
