Dogs have long served in the army and work together with rescuers. However, not everyone manages to do at least one heroic deed. But the dogs we are going to talk about managed to save many human lives.

The dog saved 10,000 lives

In 1925, an outbreak of diphtheria hit the small town of Nome on the edge of Alaska. There was a shortage of medicine in the city and doctors predicted 100% mortality.

It was decided to get medicine from the nearest city, which was more than 1000 kilometers away. 20 teams of dogs were assigned to deliver them, which had to drive through snow and ice.

The serum has expired. And the driver of one of the dog carts decided to cut short the road and went on a dangerous path. They delivered the serum to Nome half a day before its expiration date and saved 10,000 lives.

The dog saved 40 people

The dog Barry, who served at the Swiss monastery of St. Bernard at the beginning of the 18th century, also became a famous savior. He was taught to look for people who got lost in the mountains. The story goes that Barry saved 40 people. But the most famous is the story of saving a child. After an avalanche, the boy got stuck in an ice cave and almost died of hypothermia. Barry first warmed the child, then carried him through the snow to the monastery.

The dog saved 92 people

In 1919, the dog Teng saved 92 sailors. It happened off the coast of Nova Scotia in eastern Canada. The ship was thrown onto a rock not far from the shore during a storm. The only chance for salvation was to bring the end of a long rope to the shore, with which the schooner could be pulled out. One sailor tried to swim to the shore, but he died. And then Teng swam. He was able to swim and save 92 sailors.
