What moisturizes the skin better: cream or serum?

17 Nov 2022

Today, many cosmetic products are designed to make your skin well-groomed. One of the main steps in facial skin care is moisturizing. The main moisturizers are cream and serum. We’ll tell you how to use these tools correctly and which of them is more effective. Both cream and serum have a lot in common – they’re applied to clean skin, and make it moisturized and well-groomed. But also there’re differences between these cosmetics.

Moisturizing cream

By the way, there is a misconception that oily skin doesn’t need moisturizing. Everything is quite the opposite because overdried oily skin will release even more sebum. Now let's talk about the main effect of the moisturizing cream: prevent evaporation of moisture from the surface of the epidermis, strengthen the upper protective layer of cells, and saturate the deep layers of the skin with substances that attract water molecules.

The mechanism of action and effectiveness of the moisturizing cream depends on its composition. To understand which ingredients are more in the product, you should look at the composition. The most effective components of moisturizing formulas are hyaluronic acid, glycerin, ceramides, oils, and vitamins C and E. If you apply face cream in the morning, the moisturizing effects last throughout the day. The combination of active ingredients supports hydration levels and prevents premature age changes.

Now let's talk about the features of moisturizing serums. How do they differ from cream? They’re more active substances in the serum than in any cream, so serums should be applied drop by drop, sometimes point by point - distributing only to the necessary areas. Depending on the composition and recommendations of the manufacturer, the serum can be used in courses or permanently. Serums, unlike creams, fight only one problem. Therefore, before starting to use this product, you need to decide what is more important for your skin at this stage.

What is better to choose: moisturizing cream or serum?

Both means! Moisturizing serum and cream work perfectly together - first apply the serum to cleanse and toned facial skin, then the cream. These tools complement and enhance each other's effect. Creams have a denser texture, absorb more slowly, protect the surface from moisture loss, and nourish, but they don’t always reach deep layers of the skin. Therefore, it’s advisable to supplement care with serum, but in no case don’t replace it with cream.

Serum and cream are chosen according to the type of skin and its needs. And if you want to solve a specific problem - dehydration, wrinkles, age spots, loss of elasticity or something else - add the appropriate serum to the care and the effect on the skin will be more intense. It is best to use a serum cream of the same brand, then together they will give an excellent effect, and the skin will look simply wonderful.

However, we recommend using cream and serum on the recommendation of a cosmetologist.

Be beautiful and radiant!
