Almost all people are afraid of snakes to a greater or lesser extent. This is explained by common sense - a person can die from a snake bite, so we try not to come into contact with representatives of the reptile family because not everyone is able to distinguish a poisonous snake from a non-poisonous one. Panic fear of snakes was even given the name Ophidiophobia. What the vast majority of people suffer from and this is a normal reaction to these animals. It is better to completely avoid an entity that may pose a danger. Snakes are found in almost every country in the world, but there are countries where there are many of them, for example, Australia, Brazil, and Mexico. But you will be surprised to learn that there are countries where there are no snakes at all! So if you're really scared of them, you might want to consider these places to move to.

Ireland

And all because all these reptiles could not get here. About 12 thousand years ago, Ireland was covered by a glacier, on which snakes could not live. When it melted, Ireland was already separated from other lands by a sea that the snakes could not overcome. But the island of Great Britain separated from Europe only in the post-glacial period, and its southern edge is not covered by ice, which is why there are snakes in England.

However, the Irish themselves like to believe the myth that St. Patrick chased the snake out of their country. According to legend, he ordered all the snakes to gather on the mountain. Then, waving his staff, he threw them into the sea. Only the oldest and most cunning snake did not appear at the saint's call. Then Patrick tricked the snake into climbing into the box and also threw it into the salty coastal waters of Ireland.

Iceland

There are no snakes in this country for two reasons. First, snakes do not like cold climates, so they cannot exist here. Secondly, in Iceland, it is forbidden by law to import snakes, lizards, and turtles here. Therefore, you can walk barefoot on the grass here without fear and not be afraid of the hissing of snakes

New Zealand

Unlike neighboring Australia, where there are a lot of snakes, in New Zealand, you will not find even one of them anywhere. Scientists assume that the absence of these reptiles here is connected with a sharp cooling that happened back in the Ice Age. Later, the island's isolation became why snakes did not appear here again. As it was before the cold weather.

Cape Verde

It is hard to believe, but in this African country, which is located on 18 islands in the Atlantic Ocean, there have never been snakes either. In addition, they were never brought here from mainland Africa.

Snakes are also not found in two states - Alaska and Hawaii. They cannot exist here due to the weather conditions of Alaska and the territorial remoteness of the island of Hawaii.
